We are often asked ‘what does it take to service a stairlift’?
We could think of ten different tasks we carry out when servicing a stairlift – and here they are!
Inspection: Our trained technician will start by inspecting the entire stairlift system. This includes checking the track, rail, chair or carriage, safety sensors and all moving parts for any signs of wear, damage, or malfunction.
Cleaning: The technician will clean the stairlift, including the chair or carriage, rail, and any exposed mechanical components. This helps prevent debris and dirt from interfering with the smooth operation of the stairlift.
Lubrication: Moving parts of the stairlift may require lubrication to reduce friction and ensure smooth operation. Proper lubrication can extend the lifespan of the components and make the ride much more comfortable.
Battery Check: If the stairlift is battery-powered, we will check the condition of the batteries. If necessary, we will replace them to ensure reliable operation – since these are an integral part we know how important it is to be able to keep you moving! Many are rechargeable nowadays, so we also make sure that they are recharging properly.
Safety Testing: Stairlifts are equipped with safety features such as seat belts, sensors, and emergency stop buttons. These safety features will be tested to ensure they are functioning correctly.
Adjustment and Calibration: We may need to adjust the speed, acceleration, or other settings of the stairlift to ensure it meets safety standards and operates smoothly.
Rail and Track Inspection: The rail and track that the stairlift moves along will be inspected for any signs of damage or misalignment. Proper alignment is crucial for safe operation.
Electrical System Check: The electrical system of the stairlift, including wiring, switches, and controls, will be inspected for any issues. Faulty electrical components can lead to malfunctions.
Documentation: A service report will be provided to you detailing the work performed, any issues found, and any recommendations for further maintenance or repairs.
Repairs: If any problems or issues are discovered during the servicing process, we will discuss them with you and perform any necessary repairs. This may include replacing worn-out parts or addressing safety concerns.
Stairlift servicing should be conducted regularly, typically at least once a year, to ensure the continued safety and reliability of the equipment.
It’s essential to hire a qualified and experienced technician or service provider for this task to ensure that all safety standards are met and that the stairlift functions correctly. Additionally, regular servicing can help identify and address issues before they become more significant and costly problems – or worse happen when you really need the lift – we know how vital this piece of equipment is to you!
